When Prohibition began in 1920, the intent was to make the country dry, however, the amendment actually did the opposite. Supposedly, for every bar that closed down, three speakeasies opened in its place. New Jersey claimed there were ten times as many bars after Prohibition than before. Embrace your inner rebel and attend the Speakeasy on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at the Rutherford Public Library. Hosted by the Rutherford Public Library Foundation, the night will include food (enough to fill you up, but not weigh you down); wine, beer, and a specialty cocktail; gin tasting; cigar rolling; casino tables; and a 1920s costume contest! Tickets are $75 per person and can be purchased by clicking here. And be sure to have the password on hand to enter the event!
