DESCRIPTION:Harvest of Hope Community Meals – Volunteer Opportunities\nAfter successfully serving over 250 Thanksgiving and 100 Christmas meals to go this past Holiday Season\, we anticipate that many in our Community may struggle with food insecurity these next few months. To that end\, we are excited to announce that we will be offering a once a month meal-to-go during these upcoming Winter months\, starting with our first meal on Saturday\, January 30th.\n\nFollowing what we did for our Christmas meal\, we will be working with Matera’s to serve our guests pre-packaged to-go bags underneath our tent\, which will once again be set up in front of the Parish House. We are looking for a limited amount of volunteers to help us make these meals great and meaningful events for everyone involved. \nListed below are the Saturdays we anticipate serving. In the case of snow or inclement weather\, we will serve these meals out on Sunday at noon.\n– January 30th\n– February 27th\n– March 20th\nServing from 12:30 pm – 2:00 pm\nFor more information\, or to volunteer\, please contact the Church office (201) 438-3569 or email Bill Rood at fpcorfa@gmail.com. Pete of the The First Presbyterian Church of Rutherford will be leading attendees through the book “The Book of Joy.” The study will take place Sundays at 11:50 a.m. and last about an hour\, beginning Sunday\, Sept. 9\, 2018 through October 21\, 2018\, at the Karen Kaiser Parish House. \nNobel Peace Prize Laureates His Holiness the Dalai Lama and Archbishop Desmond Tutu have survived more than 50 years of exile and the soul-crushing violence of oppression. Despite their hardships—or\, as they would say\, because of them—they are two of the most joyful people on the planet. In April 2015\, Archbishop Tutu traveled to the Dalai Lama’s home in Dharamsala\, India\, to celebrate His Holiness’s eightieth birthday and to create what they hoped would be a gift for others. They looked back on their long lives to answer a single burning question: How do we find joy in the face of life’s inevitable suffering? This book offers us a rare opportunity to experience their astonishing and unprecendented week together\, from the first embrace to the final good-bye. \nThe books will be available for pickup from the office mid-August as we will jump right into the first few chapters on our first discussion. The office is located at 1 E Passaic Ave\, Rutherford. The study is free and open to all but registration is required by calling 201-438-3569 so we can put a book aside for you.
