Representatives from religious, fraternal, civic and other organizations unanimously voted to set up a blood bank in Rutherford on Thursday, April 25, 1957. The first drive, which brought in 136 donations, was held in November of that year at the Elks Lodge on Ames Avenue in Rutherford.
